Alpine IVA-D106 1-DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA/DivX Receiver/AV Head Unit - Black
The 1DIN unit features a 7" QVGA fully motorized touch screen. Flip it out for easy access and control to all your sources. Expand your media sources from iPod to Bluetooth wireless technology, HD Radio to Satellite radio*, navigation to rear camera input connectivity options are limitless! Keep up with all the latest in-vehicle entertainment and experience great sound quality with all your music. Three Preouts, 1 A/V input, 1 A/V output, and an optical output give you plenty of options for expanding and powering up your system with amps, speakers, subs, and other processors.
When I first installed my IVA-D106, I loved it. Decent looking user interface, good sound, neat features. Now that I've had it for a year, it has some warts:* Buttons are very small and require precision to push. You have to push right in the middle of a tiny button to make it work, which isn't a great feature for something you'll interact with while driving.* Most setup options require you to put in the "secret footshake" of pressing the parking brake and foot brake to get to the setup menu. This includes things as simple as changing the clock or the color of the background graphics.* The CD player in mine has stopped working. It's been one year and it won't read an MP3 DVD at all, always saying "Disc error". I've tried some cleaning CDs, but it refuses to play them with the same error message. That being said, it still sounds great. But if I had it all to do over again I would buy a different unit.

Purchased this unit 6 months ago. It is too slow; most of the features including the blue tooth are useless. The NAV system does not have many features like shutting off the annoying 2 steps disclaimer. It is garbage. Customer service at Kenwood SUCKS!
Kenwood DNX7180 In-Dash Head Unit Car Stereo

The Kenwood DNX7180 In-Dash Head Unit Car Stereo also supports Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free driving, USB connectivity for iPhones®/iPods®, access to Pandora, and even a Rear View Camera for easily backing out of parking spaces.
I called Kenwood and they said a 1.5 second delay before the interface even responds to your action is normal. Poor design if they feel that way. The unit is too slow to even use. I'll be selling this and buying a Pioneer. I will never buy a Kenwood ever again after this experience. Crutchfield was very helpful in putting me in touch with the right people, who unfortunately, were not able to help (Kenwood). The buttons on the unit are too small / part of the screen and it's impossible to tell what you hit because of the 1.5 second delay before it even starts processing. Stay far away.

I am a commercial pilot flying the 747 internationally. It has a very noise cockpit, and while new on the aircraft, I have already noticed that 75% percent of all pilots on it use some kind of noise cancelling headset. My first leg with the headset involved a big delay out of JFK; I wore the headset for 9 hours straight. After 2 hours it created a sore spot on top of my head. I used it the next three ocean crossings with the same result of a sore head after a couple hours. This confirmed my decision to return it. The other drawback is it is very big and bulky, so does take a fair amount of room in the flight bag. As another review stated, the control box is quite heavy and you can feel it dragging against your head at times. While a negative, I could of lived with this issue if it was not for the feel of my head being in a vice grip after a couple hours. Now for the positives, the head sets noise cancelling ability is excellent. The quality of ATC transmissions is amazing, although it does not always solve the problem of understanding the Scottish controllers, it sure helps. As mentioned in another review you do need to keep one side half off your ear to hear another person in the cockpit. I noticed the bulk of other pilots have the Telex model, it is much smaller and lighter. I borrowed another crewmembers Telex for 1/2 hour, and while you did not notice you even had it on, it was not as quiet, and did not do as good of job at noise cancelling.
Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT 7" In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora
Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT Double Din Text To Speech Navigation, 7” WVGA LCD Touch Screen Display, DVD / CD, MP3 / WMA / AAC Playback, Bluetooth Built-In, iPod/iPhone Audio Video Control With USB, Pandora Link, HD Radio Tuner Built-In.
Excellent. Blows doors. Over the years I have used Pioneer and Kenwood in my cars. This last go-round I tried JVC's flagship unit, the KW-NT3HDT, and was very disappointed in the overall sound, especially the bass. Sonic Electronix allowed me to exchange it with full credit for the Pioneer AVIC. The difference in sound is truly amazing. The sound is so much fuller at all sound levels and the bass, especially up loud, holds so tight and clear. The two manufacturers are not in the same league. The Pioneer's navigation screen is much more crisp than the JVC.The music selection menus are much more intuitive and easier to use that those on the JVC. All of the menus look more professional- it gives you the idea that Pioneer puts a lot more thought into their product.

Well, I wanted a nav unit for the first time, and after scouring the internet and reading sparse information available on such a new unit, I pulled the trigger and ordered it. After installing and tweaking the settings to my liking, I can comfortably say that I am happy with my purchase. The unit so far hasn't reset on me like I've read elsewhere, the sound quality is great - I even had to turn the gains down on my amp as the fronts were so loud that I couldn't hear the rears coming off the deck (this is coming from a Kenwood Excelon x693) so I guess the preout voltage is more than adequate.+ The menus are plenty speedy enough with little lag, and switching sources is plenty quick and seamless.+ The navigation works okay, but I'll know more as time goes on. It gets a fix pretty quickly.+ The satellite/hd radio works great, sound quality is much better than the stock head unit.+ Bluetooth synced with my android phone no problems.*update + I can now stream Pandora via bluetooth. User error - I had to enable Pandora in the phone settings, then start playing it on the phone. When switching the head unit to Bluetooth it gave me basic control over skipping tracks. Pretty neat!*update + Unit seems to use common sense. The current audio source continues playing as you navigate back and forth through any menu, which is nice not to have to keep switching back and forth. There are also shortcut menu buttons to go back to the audio source you started at when you are done navigating. Very…

I know allot of reviewers have valid complaints. My experience so far has been it's a decent product. Still some design flaws but not nearly as slow as people make it out to be. Tings I do not like so far are the ease that I press the AUD button by accident when trying to press the pause button on the LCD to pause the music that seems to start playing after every restart of the car. really annoying but I can live with it. Also you would think after all this time that Garmin would give us a decent voice with the navi system. I can't stand it.Love the 3D and the full screen graphics of the intersection turn off. Love the BT options and the Eco add on! Love the traffic warning and it actually can avoid traffic pretty well in LA County. Not easy to do lol!

Glad I waited. The Alpine INA-W910 in-dash unit delivers what I was looking for. The HD radio, Bluetooth, GPS, Movie, and iPod functions all work as they should. My favorite is the Pandora Radio connection; it just makes listening to Internet radio a breeze. The truly best part is the how all of the interfaces function together. The unit's interface is very simple and even though some have complained about the size of the on-screen characters, I love it for its easy glance-at functionality. The GPS unit functions as advertised; I have not had any issues. The map's on-screen adjustable look can be tailored to your taste and is not overly-bright at night, which is one thing I was very concerned about. The text-to-speech driving commands are not the best; the system does have issues pronouncing street names. One small issue is that the unit is a little bigger than the old unit, so it doesn't sit flush in the dash, protrudes about ½ an inch, it's just something I got used to. I did look at both of the similar Pioneer and Kenwood units, and am still very happy I choose the Alpine. If you get a chance, try to see it in action at your local Car Audio store, playing with it next to the other units sold me on this one.

With coverage for the U.S. and Canada, the XM service lets…
The Aera 560 works great and has lots of useful features that are pretty easy to access with the touch screen. The screen brightness is absolutely great. Much easier to see than my ipad and iphone in the plane (but nowhere near as useful as the ipad with foreflight)I bought the Aera 560 primarily for the XM weather. It's crazy not to fly without it if it's available at this price.I also thought it would be neat to connect my Zaon traffic finder to it to get pop-up traffic alerts. I bought a $125 cable to do it, but so far I haven't used it with the Zaon. Probably overkill anyway, since the bigger Zaon I use gives you an arrow to look in the general direction anyway.I was convinced to get weather radar when ATC would alert pilots to a storm cell and then ask if they have on-board radar. Seems like about 75% do have it now from what I hear on the radio. Made me nervous not having it. Especially with the insane weather these days.Although XM weather will be available on the ipad at some point, the ipad already seems burdened down with all it's doing. I didn't want to make it run any slower, or less dependable.I chose XM weather since ADS-B (which offers FREE weather radar!) isn't available all over the country. Murphy's Law says I'd end up flying somewhere with no ADS-B transmitter into a thunderstorm. Who knows if the government will ever have the money to complete ADS-B?The Aera 560 is pretty small. I use it on a RAM suction cup mount on the corner of the windscreen (not included),…

Alpine is the only car stereo brand I have ever owned. Since back in the day of my youth (late 80's early 90's) and I have never had an Alpine product fail. I was a little skeptical of the unit because of the price. Its almost $400 more from brick and mortar stores like Best Buy. I was worried it wouldn't be a legitimate Alpine, but upon arrival, it is indeed the genuine thing (as far as I can tell). Amazon shipped quickly as usual and I was excited to get the unit installed in my 2004 GMC Envoy.Everyone purchasing one of these units, should also get the PAC TR7. It makes things much easier, and tapping into the parking brake and foot brake is just nonsense which you won't have to do if you have the TR7. It's not that I want to watch DVD's while I drive down the road. It's the fact that any sane person has enough common sense NOT to, and companies have to add these safeguards to avoid being sued and it makes the installation that much more tedious. The TR7 eliminates tapping the brake wires, and comes pre programmed out of the box ready to hook up.The navigation works very well IMHO. I would just like to see map updates! I will be calling Alpine about this very soon, as everything online points to no map updates yet. There is a road near my house that was completed years ago and it's not even on the map. This is Alpine's flagship unit, and they should definitely be working on this. This is my reason for only 4 out of 5 stars. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars.I…
Garmin aera 796 Portable Touchscreen Aviation Navigators with 3D Vision
Garmin's most visionary portable GPS yet, the aera 796 features a unique 3DVision perspective view of the topography beneath your aircraft. With a choice of portrait or landscape orientation, the aera 796's "virtual reality" flight graphics can be framed with GPS-derived indications of ground track, altitude, groundspeed, vertical speed, and turn indication-all updated 5 times per second. The large 7-inch hi-res touchscreen brings tap-and-go simplicity to navigation. And geo-referenced FliteCharts, IFR Enroute Chrts, VFR Sectional Charts, SafeTaxi diagrams, AOPA Airport Directory, and more, all come pre-loaded! A built-in digital document viewer expands the unit's utility as an electronic flight bag (EFB), letting you view an entire approach at a glance. You can add airways, satellite weather with NEXRAD, and XM audio entertainment. The aera 796 is the future in your flight bag.
Unlike the trouble free Garmin 696 when it came out 3 years ago, the Garmin 796 has been riddled with software issues. I have about 50 hours now on it. I was one of the first to buy it several months ago. A month ago I was ready to return mine. There were too many bugs. In addition to running too hot to touch in my airplane in the afternoon sun, there were a number of menu items that were included in the 696 that were missing from the 796 such as measuring distance between two points and rubber banding of flight plan legs. I sent Garmin my list of problems with the unit. They paid attention and now with system 2.3 the bugs, as far as I can tell, are down to four: the flight logging which was so useful on the 696 is totally intermittent in its logging of flights: the data logging doesn't separate out individual flights as it does on the 696: sometimes the flight plan is not displayed on the map after a flight plan is entered; and finally sometimes while scrolling through the XM channels, the whole unit freezes and needs to be rebooted. However, I'm not willing to send mine back just yet. While the pages are not set up as conveniently as in the 696, I have found that I can get around much, faster than with the buttons of the 696. Garmin added some new shortcut menu features with System 2.3, and a new system is forthcoming. I haven't had the heating issue, since I got a new exchange unit. I recommended some upgrades that could make navigating the screens easier. Garmin support has…
Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 6.1" In-Dash Double-DIN Navigation DVD Receiver
The DNX6960 navigation receiver wraps together navigation, Bluetooth®, and the stellar audio/video performance you expect from Kenwood's flagship Excelon line. And this high-performance addition to your car's system fits perfectly in the double-sized opening in your dash.
After installing this head unit in my 2008 Ford F150 I got very excited. This really is a classy head unit in most respects. I've got my phone paired with the Bluetooth, the navigation seems very nice, Sirius radio sounds very good, even my steering wheel controls seem to work decently with the PAC SWIJACK, but... I used the Kennwood KCA-IP301V adapter to control my 120 GB iPod Classic. Immediately I noticed that it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds (more often closer to 10) to switch forward or backward between songs, or to choose the songs from the list menu. Basically whenever you switch songs the unit freezes for the 10 seconds or whatever, and then resumes. Album artwork loads just as slowly too, which I really wouldn't mind being quicker, but would sacrifice in a heartbeat if it meant I could navigate between songs quicker. Also, when trying to navigate through my music using the A-Z menu, only about half of the letters actually brings up music that starts with that letter (M gets you O, P gets you R, but L might actually get you L, etc.) In essence, it's nearly impossible to listen to your music without going crazy. It can literally take you up to a full minute to try and skip ahead 6 songs!!! Try to press track advance twice (which you WILL unconsciously do when the unit doesn't respond after the first press} and then it freezes up for the 10 seconds, then skips ahead twice - which is fine if that's what you want, but often I only wanted one song skipped, so you have…

I have owned numerous Garmin GPS units and was excited to try an aviation version of their product.Aviation:The aviation part is okay. You can search for the closest airport but there is no direct to button.Weather:This is a nice feature, though not a cheap monthly payment. There is no way to change the speed of the animation (which is miserably slow). Also, it takes forever to get enough history in it to animate anything.Auto:I'm impressed with this part. Compared to the 350 and 255W, this one blows them away.Overall, this is an okay unit.
